“I like to make things, and I like to make things up: characters, histories, poetic encounters.  I then use cloth and colored thread to give these imagined  things visual life.”

Ginny Smith, a graduate of the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC,  uses humor in her hand stitched work to explore a myriad of emotions that are part and parcel of the human experience. There is a humanity in her sly humor but also also compassion for our shared experiences. A prolific sketchbook artist, her drawing practice informs her work in textiles.
